I went to this program last year,
it opened my eyes wide.
I have a dad of is addicted to drugs and an alcoholic mother,
and seeing them go through that, it breaks my heart. Seeing
everyone go through it, I hope people realise that it will kill you,
it’s powerful stuff. Open your eyes, you’ll see.

A word from the founder of The Scared Straight Tour

I am extremely pleased with the new developments in our program as I think this will make an even bigger difference in the lives of even more people by helping them maintain a life free from addiction. I have dedicated my career (since 1997) to helping those suffering from this horrible affliction but my involvement with addiction goes much further back. Having grown up in a family where alcoholism was rampant, and having developed a serious addiction myself, which almost cost me my life when I was in my 20's, I take addiction and the devastation it causes very seriously.

My personal quest is to make being clean and sober cool. That is no small task considering how strong the substance abuse culture is in our society. There's nothing cool about ruining your life by getting hooked on some poisonous substance. Education and Prevention are the keys to succeeding in this endeavour and this program, and the recent changes to it, is making a significant contribution to that.

I hope you that will take advantage of this opportunity and bring as many youth as you can on The Scared Straight Tour.

I had the extreme privilege of accompanying a group of youth from rural BC on the Scared Straight Tour and speaking with them at length about their experience. What we saw and how they related the desperation to their own world not only affected them so emotionally that they began to share their own personal stories; it created a tight bond of support among the group that time will never change. In short, they left with new tools for coping with addiction and became each other’s best support group.
